Human Rights Issues in Africa

"South Africa: Overcoming Apartheid, Building Democracy"

Michigan State University is pleased to announce the official launch of "South Africa: Overcoming Apartheid, Building Democracy"
(http://overcomingapartheid.msu.edu) - a new online educational resource designed especially for high school and undergraduate students.

The site contains original video interviews with 45 South African activists that also will be of interest to researchers and the general public.
Full-length interviews are available, along with140 interview segments organized topically. The site also contains raw video footage documenting mass resistance and police repression, historical documents, rare photographs, original narratives and essays, and educational activities that use the primary materials on the site.

This online curriculum resource was created by Michigan State University's MATRIX digital humanities center (matrix.msu.edu), the African Studies Center (http://africa.msu.edu), and the Department of History (http://history.msu.edu). External funding was obtained from the National Endowment for the Humanities program, Grants for Teaching and Learning Resources and Curriculum Development.

These sites at Human Rights Watch are excellent sources of information on the history of the crisis in Darfur. The pages include pictures, videos, journals from Sudanese children, information on Sudanese leaders and measures that the African Union and United Nations are taking to address the crisis.
